Storyboard of the thriller

Storyboard for new film The Package

In these photographs shows the storyboard for the short film, as we have visual planned how the opening to the short film would look like.
These storyboards of the short film will be used when filming the short film as they will remind us or tell us of what the next shot for the short film should look like before we filmed the shot.

The task that's worth 10% of my grade in AS Level.

In the past week, we were given a task that is worth 10% of our AS Level grade.
This task was to create some clips of a movie that does include the following:

A person walking down a corridor.
A person opening a door.
A person sitting on a chair or stool in front of another person and deliver some speech.

This was the main things we needed to show in our short movie of clips,  and anything else we could add to make the short movie more exciting.

We used a range of different shot angles such as close - up,  tilt shot, low angle and high angle shots as well as more.

Even we used some costume to make the main character of the short movie of clips better.

Post- Production

Post- Production

I have learnt that Post-Production happens after you start to filming your movie.
Post-Production includes:
- Editing
- Publication
- Short Evaluation

Whilst in the post-production, the director, the producers and script writers can sit down and watch their film in full. This allows them to see does the filming meet their storyboard and what they want out of the filming, that successfully meet the targeted audience and the best results.
As well as deleting  any unwanted scenes that doesn't quite fit in with the rest of the movie or taking them out to be put in the extended version of the film.

This is the last stage of film production,  the sound, editing and titling is completed during this process.

On this past week, I have been watching Utopia Series 2 episode 1.
I have learnt that Utopia is a Sci-fi series that is centres around a mismatched group who discovers a global conspiracy in a comic book. Unlike any other TV show on Channel 4 this thriller uses hyper-real violence in a use of colour.
In order to replicate the graphic novel's bold aesthetic,  the director Marc Munden turned to the Technicolor palette of 1950s Hollywood.
Like comic-book artists,  Munden and colourist Aidan Darrell carefully colour correct each shot in post-production.  The colour palette for series 2 aiming Monday 14th July onwards.

In series 2, they afford to dress the sets in more yellows, cyans and magentas so in post-production they can make them bolder.

Framing a shot: practice with stills

1. LS USING LEADING LINES
CREATES THE DIRECTION OF MOVEMENT, AND THE
EMOTION OF WONDER AND THRILL IN THE AUDIENCE
AS THEY WILL BE DETERMINED TO WATCH
WHAT HAPPENS AFTERWARDS.

2. LONG SHOT
USED TO AN OPENING OF THE FILM, SETS THE LOCATION OR STARTING LOCATION OF THE MAIN CHARACTER'S JOURNEY THROUGH THE FILM/STORY.
CLOSE UP USING THE RULE OF THIRDS
CLOSE UP OF AN INDIVIDUAL'S FACE SHOWING THEIR EMOTION AND
FEELINGS AT THE MOMENT OF THE SHOT.
MOSTLY ITS AN SHOT OF THE INDIVIDUAL'S FACE AND SHOULDERS, HOWEVER SOMETIMES THE INDIVIDUAL'S FACE ONLY.

THREE DIFFERENT VIEWPOINTS FROM DIFFERENT ANGLES
Focuses on one thing that's is very important at the moment of the film, this show is used when two or more characters in the film is meeting up at that location and shows the different angles they enter the site. For examples; one person enters from the right- handed side of the sculpture, then another enters from the left-handed side of the sculpture and both are meeting at the centre of the sculpture.

ECU- EXTREME CLOSE UP
SHOWS THE EMOTION AND FEELING OF THE FACE OR IMPORTANT OBJECT IN THE FILM.
OR USED IN THE OPENING OF THE FILM TO BE AN STARTING POINT OF IMPORTANTS WITHIN THE FILM, FOR EXAMPLES IN A MURDER, THRILLER FILM THE KNIFE THAT KILLS SOMEONE, AS IT SAYING TO THE AUDIENCE WHO'S THIS KNIFE BELONGS TO. THIS WILL CREATE THE THRILL AND MYSTERY OF THE FILM AND ATTRACTS THE AUDIENCE'S  ATTENDION TO WATCH THE FILM.

MEDIUM SHOT (MS) USING LEADING LINES
SAME AS A LONG SHOT USING LEADING LINES HOWEVER THE MEDIUM SHOT IS MORE FOCUSED ON THE INDIVIDUAL WITH LITTLE BACKGROUND.
BUT STILL SHOWS THE DIRECTION OF THE INDIVIDUAL'S MOVEMENT IN THE MOVIE.

LS- LOW ANGLE SHOT
CREATES THE INDIVIDUAL OR OBJECT DOMINANT IN THE SHOT, THAT THE PERSON OR OBJECT IS IMPORTANT AND FOCUS OF THAT MOMENT IN THE FILM. SHOWS THE PERSON'S EMOTION AND FEELINGS AT THAT MOMENT OF THE SHOT, CREATES A SCARY, THRILLING ATMOSPHERE AS SHOWN OF THE FACE OF THE PERSON.

ESTABLISHING SHOT
SHOWS THE PROBLEM OR SETTING IN THE MOVIE, THAT CREATES A THRILLING, ACTION ATMOSPHERE.

Welcome

Welcome to my blog site
I got no clue or done media studies before as I took the course as it seems interesting as we learn more about media and film making, using a camera correctly.
Furthermore studying media studies will give me more experience in the world as I see and be a part of the world as the media covers everything from little TV dramas to big news headlines or a big blockbuster. As well as learning the practice side of the course, we'll also getting to know the theory of the Media.

My interests are that I watch millions of movies each year, by heading down to the cinema and watch new releases or watching a movie every night from action films to laugh-out-comedies films.
For example,  this weekend I watched the new Predators film.

The picture on the right-handed side is a Mid Shot.
The Mid Shot of the character which is the predator,  makes the Predator dominant in the shot and the main focus of the shot as it makes the audience feel that something evil like will occur afterwards.
Also the Predator in the mid shot creates a scary feel to the audience that the predator is looking at you, this is the reason why the Predator movie is a Sci-fi, Horror,  Thriller movie as it creates emotion and feelings within the audience.
This shot to the left handed side would be a shot and reverse shot however it also could be a close up.  As only the head and shoulders of the Predator are only being shown in the shot. Also the close up shows the Predator in detail and it the main focus at this moment of the film.
However, this shot could be a shot and reverse as there are two Predators in the shot and one is being dominant and victorious showing strong body language.
Whilst in the next shot that follows this shot will show the defended Predator's emotions and feelings that the Predator has lost.

The right-handed shot is a two people shot
that there is two characters in the shot.
This creates a thrilling atmosphere that makes
the audience feel the creating emotion feel.
